The FT has kicked the boot into Mayor Johnson and the Conservatives "green credentials" with a stinging attack on the Tories failure to live up to the hype of "vote blue, go green" a few years ago with the following in a recent article by Jim Pickard:

"There are fears Boris Johnson's actions in London - the mayor has cut the Greater London Authority's climate team from 49 posts to 26 - are a sign of things to come. Mr Johnson has delayed the extension of London's Low Emission Zone to 90,000 light goods vehicles for at least two years, dropped the western extension of the congestion charge zone and dropped his predecessor's plans for a £25 emission charge on gas guzzlers"

This has prompted Isabel Dedring the Mayor's "environment adviser" to state in a letter in today’s FT that:

"We have robust targets to cut carbon by 60 per cent by 2025 which includes a pledge to generate a quarter of the capital's energy locally by this date.

Dedring went onto say in the FT:

"We are making public buildings more energy efficient, have created 10 flagship low carbon-zones and have provided cash for 10,000 street trees and 11 park makeovers.  Plans are in place to make London the electric vehicle capital of Europe."

Comment:

At the recent Tory conference the nuclear industry was heavily represented as were major energy suppliers. Are we going to see the emergence of the "nasty Tories" with policies pandering to the fossil fuel, environmentally damaging companies?
