In what is a major test for Mayor Johnson's administration at City Hall Sir Simon Milton tells London Assembly Mayor was aware of misuse of credit card 10 months ago
City Hall Desk
City Hall has called in the Metropolitan Police to investigate the allegations of the misuse of a City Hall credit card by the Conservative deputy mayor Ian Clement, in what is increasingly a test for Mayor Johnson in how his administration deals with sleaze.
Mayor Johnson is believed to have been "extremely annoyed" that Ian Clement used the credit card to pay for dinners and lunches, and it is also being alleged that the Mayor himself authorised some of the expenses.
The scandal is now threatening to involve another of Mayor Johnson "inner circle" Sir Simon Milton who is claimed by the Guardian to have told the London Assembly's business, administration and management committee that "Johnson knew of the alleged irregularities 10 months ago when he expressed disapproval that the card had been used by Clement to upgrade flights worth £2,400 to the Beijing Olympics for himself and another person".
The crux of the problem according to sources at City Hall is that Mayor Johnson was aware of Clements use of the corporate credit card and the alleged misuse of it.
Speculation is also growing that there is power struggle amongst the "old guard" at City Hall and the new appointments made by Mayor Johnson. The source of the Clement allegations is believed to be a "very senior Conservative" who is posturing and asserting his influence over Mayor Johnson. photo credit: Sir Simon Milton London Daily News copyright
