Mayor Johnson will announce today  a plan to  build 32,000 new homes for social housing requirements, exceeding the current targets in place.

Mayor Johnson will launch a study to see how much land is owned by the London Development Agency, the Metropolitan Police and emergency services.  A new company will also be formed that will offer planning and development expertise to local authorities on use of their own land, in order to provide more social housing.

London is expected to deliver 50,000 affordable homes in the current three year period.

In the FT Richard Blakeway the director of housing for mayor said:

"At the moment London has £4bn of the £8bn committed in the UK under the affordable homes programme.  Quite clearly that was a record and no one expects that we will have anything like that again".

The plan is to find land that is affordable to developers and ensure social housing provisions are maintained.
