There is no doubt Ken Livingstone is a "colossus" amongst the dwarfs of London local politics, and he has pioneered in an otherwise drab and grey arena with new ideas like the Congestion charge and the entire concept of a London authority controlling transport. But there is also that concept of knowing when to "hang your boots up". Mayor Johnson may have an almighty battle with his own party in the next years to come to defend expenditure on projects that have been committed to by the previous Labour government, but that does not mean he is not capable to lead the charge. Ken is best suited to commentary now than actual front line politics, maybe playing the role of advisor or some other capacity. How can anyone put themselves forward after the allegations than surfaced at the end of their tenure when suggestions were made of improper handling of public money on dubious projects?
No, its time that we moved on, and so does Ken Livingstone. His LBC shows are a good listen, but this should be it, its time for a new breed of politicians to rise up and its rushing past Ken.
