Max Verstappen, aged 18, became the youngest Grand Prix winner. He passed his driving test in September.

The Spanish Grand Prix held in Barcelona brought many surprises. The crash between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton left Verstappen the opportunity to make his debut in a surprising way.

The young driver competed for Red Bull and was promoted from junior team Toro Rosso a week before the Grand Prix. He managed to beat Kim Raikkonen by 0.616 seconds.

Max beat two records. He is the first Dutch race winner since 1950 when this championship was launched and the youngest driver to stand on the podium.

Christian Horner, the Red Bull team principal, declared after the race “I can’t ever remember seeing a debut performance like that. The kid has just done an unbelievable job. Max hasn’t put a wheel wrong all weekend. To win the race, I don’t think anyone can have dreamed of that.”
