World acclaimed central London based Central St Martins has pooled its experience in the innovative arts fields with a US based design consultancy "METHOD" to help existing students with ideas that can be developed and brought to the market, and is hoped it may find "the next Facebook, Google or Apple".

Central St Martins (CSM) the institution attended by some of the worlds leading names in fashion and design has acted as an "incubator" to design trends and technological innovation in product packaging and design.  The MethodDesignLab is a new venture designed to create and develop product and services, initiated by the 4,500 student body at CSM.

With a £20 million fund raised from private investors the aim is to have around 20 projects a year going to the market.

The head of Central St Martins Jane Rapley said:

"We will not only uncover many ideas that may never have seen the light of day but will be able to develop, improve and commercialise them in an a way not possible before".

"There is no reason why the UK should not produce the next Facebook, Google or Apple".

The venture also has the backing of the co-founder of Lastminute.com Brent Hoberman who said in The Independent "there needs to be options like this for graduates as there are fewer jobs about in the current market."

Hoberman also said to The Independent:

"We are well placed to be a hub for European innovation.  We need to encourage an ecosystem of entrepreneurs".
