Car Review - Kia Soul 1.6 CRDi Tempest

John Kaponi

Its not often a small car excites everyone that comes into contact with it, but the Soul Tempest without exception won the plaudits of everyone who saw it, drove inside it (my five year old loved it) and even passers by; a winner from the start.

Let’s break this down. If you want to feel that you are driving inside an SUV, but do not want to spend over the odds, but still have the economy of a small car, the Soul is a must.  Quick, responsive to the driver, comfortable for the passengers, nippy in town and safe on the motorways, this is potentially the best Kia car to date.

Kia said when the first Soul launched in Detroit in 2008:

"For our customers, its a lifestyle statement, it creates a strong emotional link between them and us".

Under the bonnet the Soul is powered by 126 turbodiesel engine, which delivers 47.9mpg, which is a plus given the spiralling cost of diesel.

Another big advantage is the driving position the cockpit is compact and sporty, with a thick-rimmed four spoke steering wheel and a three dial instrument cluster beneath a tightly curved cowling.

What family drivers want to know is the car they are driving is both safe a comfortable for the passengers and driver with equal measure, the Soul Tempest has been built with a versatility that allows you to drive in the city and long distances, whilst retaining a level of comfort that reassures everyone.

Strongly recommend going for the Soul CRDi which comes with privacy glass, and 18 inch allows which are uber-cool and an excellent internal sound system.
