An elderly couple have been killed by a lorry after their car broke down in Northolt.

They were waiting for assistance on the A40 on the eastbound lane by the Polish War Memorial around midnight Thursday.

The 80-year-old husband and his 76-year-old wife were pronounced dead at the scene - the lorry driver has been bailed by police to return in July.

Post-mortem tests are expected to be carried out on Monday.

Officers believe they know who they are but are waiting to make a formal identification before releasing their details.
