Londoners are being told to prepare for 100 days of "major disruption" in 2012 during the build up to Olympics in July, and when the Games are taking place with businesses still in "denial" according to Deloittes the accountants, with 60 per cent of businesses claiming there will be a "minimal impact".

Employers are being urged to have more staff working from home during the Olympics, with the London Chamber of Commerce claiming that "London will be a totally a different place during the Olympics".

From mid-July 2012 central London roads will have route restrictions imposed with the "Olympic lanes" used for ferrying athletes and VIPs to venues.

Transport for London is hoping that 30 per cent less Londoners will stop using public transport or cars during the Olympics, with TfL preparing a system to provide an hour by hour forecast for travel hotspots.

Stuart Reid Transport for London's travel and demand management unit said to the Financial Times that "arrangements would hit everything from deliveries of stationary, to waste removal".

Traffic restrictions will be imposed from 6am until midnight each day of the Olympics with freight and other commercial goods vehicles given a window to transport goods from midnight until 6am each day.

Wage bills are likely to rise with night workers providing the sole means of distribution during the Olympics, traditionally paid more money for unsociable working hours.

Transport for London is considering the following:

-  The creation of 108 miles of "no stopping" Olympic Route, with deliveries taking place only from midnight to 6am daily
-  The Olympic lanes, marked and used solely for Olympic staff, athletes VIPs, fines of £250 if non-authorised traffic stray into the lane.
-  Revised bus routes in Wapping
-  No right turns and closures of pedestrian crossings around Embankment and Tower Hill
