Underneath the carpet of the leafy suburbs exists a sub-culture of criminals that have made London their home and operate in a parallel universe to most law-abiding Londoner’s. With a "blank" when you ask them how they paid for that sixty grand Range Rover, the amount of criminals that operate "at will" in London is staggering.
With the news that London has another gangland shooting likely to be linked to the Turkish mafia in north London, most Londoners who commute from their home and then to office have no idea of what is really going on. The serious money involved in the underworld is invested in legitimate businesses all over the capital. Either as groceries, restaurants or car dealerships, the underworld which is run by highly organised gangs from Turkey, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria have no fear of the law here in London.
When you consider that in Turkey or Albania carrying an automatic weapon is as normal as carrying an i-Phone, you will see how culturally different criminals are in their style and approach. Turkish gangs who trained in the Turkish military are run in syndicates with the equivalent to Sicilian "capo's" or captains running areas who are then answerable to "god-father" style figures. Any deviation from a stipulation in loan agreements will result in ruthless if not sometimes lethal consequences.
The police have a very tough job, given that many within these communities are unwilling or scared to give information that may lead to arrests. This is London in 2012 an ensemble of the entire underworld across Europe operating their "businesses" without fear of the law.
