City Hall is confident London will operate normally today despite more snow hitting the capital late last night and early this morning. Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "Some challenges with this snow this morning 500 tonnes of salt stributed TfL tell me they're sorting any outstanding problems".
However motorists are being warned of treacherous road conditions after more than two inches (6cm) of snow blanketed some regions and the mercury plunged to -4C.
Freezing conditions are expected to continue with predictions of -9C in parts of England according to the Met Office.
On Thursday night snow began falling in the North and the Midlands before gradually hitting the Home Counties, East Anglia, London, the South East, the South West and Wales.
A "yellow" severe weather warning instructing people to "be aware" of snow and ice in nearly all parts of England as well as south Wales has been issued by the the Met Office. A level three cold weather alert is also in place.
Heathrow is operating a "normal" service according to BAA by passengers are being told to check their flight's status before setting off and allow extra time for their journey after it was hit by show overnight.
On the London Underground Transport for London are reporting at 9:30am that the following problems are affecting travel:
