With the recent spate of stabbings in London and the apparent impotence of the Police to prevent them, the question that is on the lips of many in this city is whether we are heading towards the epidemic of homicides in urban centers like Atlanta, Texas and others? The Met have singularly failed to instill the right strategy to either prevent the perpetrators of murder on our streets, or give the confidence to the communities being inflicted by this crime to give the correct intelligence that may lead to arrests. The responsibility for the twenty plus stabbings in London cannot solely be at the doorstep of the Police, the individuals who carry weapons, use them without regard for the life of the victims, which means they have no respect for law and order. The only solution here must be tougher sentences, tougher and more immediate policing in the streets and Londoner’s reclaiming their own neighbourhoods.
