The plight of missing British journalist Michael Dixon, who has not been seen or heard of for over a year since going missing in Costa Rica, has the backing of London MEP Syed Kamall who is calling for immediate action by the Costa Rican government.
Meeting representatives of the Dixon family in the European Parliament in Brussels, Syed Kamall MEP for London has endorsed the campaign to help find the whereabouts of Michael Dixon in a statement issued to the London Daily News:
"I hope that the Costa Rican government will co-operate with the family of Michael Dixon to try and find some answers. It has been a year since the last sighting of Michael, we must not let time go by and allow people to forget Michael."
The Dixon family and missing persons NGO the Lucie Blackman Trust will be holding a press conference at the Hilton London Hyde Park at 2pm on 8 October 2024 to demand a proper investigation by British police and Costa Rican Authorities.
The family has repeatedly asked for the British Metropolitan Police Service and Interpol to get involved. But the Costa Rican authorities are refusing to send the official letter needed to get this done.
"How can such a person vanish without trace and nobody, nobody but us, seems to care? He is a British citizen, an EU citizen and a journalist" - Lynn and Hubert Dixon parents of Michael Dixon
"The Dixon family has endured birthdays and anniversaries without Michael. Now they are facing the horrible prospect of a second Christmas without him" - Lucie Blackman Trust & Missing Abroad Operations Manager Matt Searle.
Michael Dixon, a 34-year-old British journalist working for United Business Media, walked out of his hotel room in Tamarindo, Costa Rica one year ago on 18 October 2024 and vanished without trace.
The family believe that Michael Dixon has been the victim of a serious crime, but efforts by the Costa Rican police and Michael's family - involving air, land and sea searches - has uncovered no substantive evidence of his whereabouts.
Nine other EU and US citizens have either gone missing or been murdered in Costa Rica in the past 18 months.
The family's YouTube video appeal currently features celebrities such as: Grace Jones, Mouloud Archour and Bruce Webber. See more on helpfindmichaeldixon.com photo credit: Syed Kamall MEP for London (photo Petros)
