News Desk Anti-Israeli demonstration across the capital will be escalated following the increasing tensions in the Middle East and the rising death toll in Gaza and the West Bank with a rally by the "Stop the War Coalition" on Saturday 3 January at the Embankment.
The rising level of opposition to the actions of Israel has manifested with several of the capitals MP's signing their names to a letter in today’s Guardian newspaper calling for ceasefire, these include Simon Hughes MP, Andy Love MP and prominent Jewish MP Gerald Kaufman of the Jewish Labour Movement. The letter "Growing horror at the bloodletting in Gaza" said:
"Israel’s actions are disproportionate and counterproductive to achieving either security for the people of Israel or peace in the Middle East".
The pro-Israel lobby responded in The Guardian with London MP Andrew Dismore and five others signing a letter and said:
"We are horrified by the bloodletting and destruction in Gaza but we cannot ignore that it was Hamas that called an end to the ceasefire last week and escalated its rockets, mortars and missles at Israeli civilians".
In an open letter to the Prime Minister the Stop the War Coalition has called for the British Government's:
"Unequivocal condemnation of Israel’s actions as it has condemned similar brutalities committed by various states around the world. We urge you to ensure:
- An immediate end to Israel’s military assault on Gaza
- An immediate end ot the blockage and siege of Gaza
- An end to the Israel’s violation of International Law
- An end to Israeli Occupation
