"Speed meeting" at Conservative Conference, directly elected head of the Met if Tories become government

"A Conservative government would move to have the head of the Metropolitan Police directly elected by the people of London under a Conservative government", Victoria Borwick Londonwide Assembly Member said during a "speed-meeting" fringe meeting of the Conservative group in the London Assembly.

Illegal mini-cab touts would be targeted by the Conservatives if they formed the next government, with "more emphasis on enforcement" was what one senior Tory said to the London Daily News.

Irritation with the current structures within Transport for London was evident with members of the Conservative group openly calling for fundamental "root and branch" changes within TfL.

The Conservative group in the London Assembly organised a "speed-meeting" of Assembly Members during the Conservative party conference in Manchester which allowed the hundreds of guests to meet, discuss and clarify Conservative policy for London.
