If the allegations are true that police officers used the notorious "waterboarding" methods on suspects who were later released without charge, we have a police force in this city of ours which is a mess and a total disgrace.
The scenes of the G20, the incompetence of the police that lead to the murders of the two French students Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, the Damian Green affair, and a plethora of other examples of total ineptitude highlights there is a fundamental problem with the way the Metropolitan Police operates.
Who is in charge? Why do the police believe they are above the law in so many cases? The answer is this. We have a totally incompetent government, successive Home Secretary’s who have allowed the leadership of the Met to waste money and resources on projects that have flopped and allowed "established practices" to continue.
What need’s to happen in the Met is the presence of strong "civilian element" and the eradication of the canteen culture that is so damaging to the way in which the Met operates.
We need a strong and effective Met police force, but all we have now is a police force out of touch with London, prepared to squander resources on "glamorous cases" but if you get mugged, robbed forget about it! photo credit: London Daily News
