The police car which killed a 16-year-old boy on a pedestrian crossing in East Ham had its sirens off according to Scotland Yard. Local boy Khaleel Rehman was on his bicycle crossing between Ron Leighton Way and Wakefield Street just after 12 midnight on Saturday. The Vauxhall Astra was traveling at speed with its lights on, responding to an emergency 999 call when it ploughed into the teen - he was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a severe fracture of the neck at the base of the skull. Standards board investigating - IPPC "informed"
"The Metropolitan Police's Directorate of Professional Standards are investigating the incident. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has also been informed. A Met spokeswoman said:
"The car was answering an emergency call. The London Ambulance Service attended, but the cyclist died at the scene." Any witnesses are asked to contact the Metropolitan Police's Directorate on 020 8785 8738.
