A 57-year-old man has died after he was attacked in the checkout of a Sainsbury’s store in Merton over a queue jumper.

Kevin Tripp, an innocent bystander, was punched to the ground as he was queuing up on Tuesday night; it's thought he hit his head. He later died last night at St George's Hospital, Tooting

Minding his own business

Apparently a row broke out when a woman accused another shopper of jumping the queue as he lined up at the checkout. A scuffle broke out and the man was struck, falling backwards.

Man charged

Tony Virasami, 37, from Catford, has appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court this morning charged with murder and is remanded in custody.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said:

"A man assaulted in High Street, Merton, on June 10 died at 11.45pm on June 11 at St George's Hospital, Tooting.”
