Man 'killed his mother' in Finchley

Police found the dead body of a woman last night near Finchley Central station - a man held is believed to be her son.

The man in his 40s and supposedly of African origin, was arrested close to the scene carrying a blood soaked knife - the corpse was found soon afterwards.

Tube staff tackled the man

Wielding the blade and wandering around a nearby car park, tube workers spotted the man and wrestled him to the ground, grabbing a set of keys from the ignition and preventing him speeding off in a car.


Station closed

Police have closed Finchley Central station and the man is being questioned on suspicion of murder. Five houses have been cordoned off on Station Road, where houses can reach £500,000. The woman, in her 60s, was found at 0300 in one of the flats, the man was apprehended at 0235.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said:

"Officers noticed blood on the blade and the man's clothing. As a result of further inquiries officers attended an address in Station Road. After forcing entry to the premises they discovered a lifeless body of a female."
