By John Kennedy - London's "outspoken" black cabbie
Yesterday across the United Kingdom "VAT man" swooped like the "caped crusader" and struck a blow so hard (Ker-pow) that every man, woman and child across the nation felt the hike of a 2.5% increase in Value Added Tax (VAT).
Just like the Nick Clegg/Liberal Democratic pledge of no rise in tuitions fees David Cameron's Conservative party need to answer why they have broken an election pledge and increased VAT from 17.5 to 20%. Unlike the previous chancellor George Osbourne has decided to hike the tax in the hope it raises annual revenues in excess of £11 billion. With the Cameron/Clegg coalition looking more like the "un-dynamic duo" has the chancellor played a "joker" on us all and let the real culprits off the hook ?
The "riddle" that needs to be solved by the powers that be back in "deepest darkest Westminster" is how can some in the City pocket millions in bonuses whilst the honest hard working citizen gets clobbered (kerching) with tax increases brought about in part by the reckless investment/lending practises of many of the City/Wall Street's wizards. Is it time to introduce a salary cap (wow) or should the "un-dynamic duo" introduce a "freeze" on the over generous bonus culture of those who dwell in the City (how) ?
With the Labour Party led by the younger Milliband banging the drum loudly over this unfair tax could he be about to "spin a web" that'll catch the coalition firmly in the spotlight of the "VAT Signal" and pin the darkest fears of a double dip recession firmly on the jaws of the "un-dynamic duo" ?
Will "Milliband-Milliband" make a stand for the ordinary hard working citizen or will "VAT Man" strike again ? The first indicator of this mighty battle will take place at the parliamentary constituency of Oldham and Saddleworth on the 13th of January where these fine citizens will get a chance to deliver their own signal to the coalition led by the "un-dynamic duo" and "VAT Man".
