Kensington & Chelsea council are set to give residents a £50 rebate. The Tory run West End borough is cutting £5.4million from its budget for the one off scheme to "put money back into the local economy" 7,000 pensioners will get a cheque in the post and bill payers will see the discount in their monthly payments in April. Merrick Cockell, leader of the council said no front-line services would be sacrificed. Explaining the details she said: "It pays the same to all residents liable for council tax, thereby giving proportionately more help to those on the lowest incomes; it focuses the help in April, when it might be most needed; and it can provide a stimulus to the local economy if, as we would hope, those who spend it will do so locally. "Others will choose to save. Perhaps those who least need this rebate will help local charities." Vote The fantastic deal for Ken and Chelsea residents has to go before a full council in March for approval. In an added bonus as the dividend is officially classed as "capital" and not a "rebate", those on benefit will not have the £50 taken off them by the state.
