HACKNEY Young Musicians have had the pleasure of working with music educator Paul Griffiths and his band Blue Pepper in anticipation of a performance at the Barbican freestage this Thursday, as support to the opening concert by The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in their Barbican residency.

Three visiting musicians from Jazz at Lincoln Center – saxophonist Ronald Carter, trumpeter Terell Stafford and double bassist Rodney Whitaker – came to the City Academy Hackney on Tuesday 8th June to see some of East London’s future jazz stars in action, to rehearse with them, pass on some wisdom and know-how from the home of Jazz, and to help them polish their act for their Barbican debut.

This work is in partnership with Hackney Music Service and part of the Barbican’s first International Residency, ‘United In Swing 2010’ with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under its artistic director, legendary jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.

The Barbican/Guildhall School Creative Learning Division in partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center has created a programme which encompasses work with young people, music students and professional musicians by JALC faculty working with UK music educators and jazz musicians.
