The only surviving terrorist of the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980 has been granted parole.

Fowzi Badavi, 50, was jailed for life in 1981 for conspiracy to murder, false imprisonment and two charges of manslaughter after he and five others forced their way into the Iranian Embassy in Kensington. He was the only surviving terrorist after the SAS stormed the building

He will not be deported, is free to live in the UK and receive benefits.

Diplomatic row

A diplomatic row is brewing as Iran wants Badavi tried in Tehran to face murder charges on two hostages killed in the siege.

Officials failed to get assurances from Iran that Nejad would not suffer torture or death on his return.

The terrorist belonged to a dissident group opposed to leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution Ayatollah Khomeini.
