Allegations that a serving police officer of the Metropolitan Police used racist language against a black Londoner during the summer riots of last August, are now being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Scotland Yard in a statement on Sunday said: "We can confirm that the Metropolitan Police Service received a complaint alleging a man arrested on 11 August 2024 was subjected to discriminatory behaviour [racial remarks]; assault and oppressive conduct/or harassment."
"These are serious allegations; any use of racist language or excessive use of force is totally unacceptable."
"The MPS's Directorate of Professional Standards referred this case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission who are independently investigating. Any charges would be a matter for the IPCC and the CPS."
"Following the alleged incident, three officers were the subject of a gross misconduct investigation by the IPCC."
"One of the officers [A] was immediately suspended in relation to this matter pending the result of the IPCC investigation [Refer IPCC re further details].
One of the officers [B] has been placed on restricted duties on an unrelated matter and another [C] remains on full duties.
The MPS will take robust action once the IPCC has concluded its investigation and the CPS has concluded its review."
