Riggs died after being taken ill at Brixton police station last Thursday.

IPCC investigation

Around 7pm cops were called to Atkins Street in Southwark after Riggs behavior was causing concern to members of the public. He was later arrested in nearby Weir Road on suspicion of public order offences and assault on a police officer. He was taken to Brixton police station but became unwell and was taken to hospital where he subsequently died at 9.24pm.

The Metropolitan Police referred Mr Rigg's death to the Independent Police Complaints Commision and a post-mortem carried out by a Home Office pathologist on Friday showed no obvious signs of any injury that could have caused Mr Rigg's death.

Investigators have identified a number of significant witnesses and are in the process of taking statements from them.

The investigation continues and anybody with any information which may help is asked to call 0800 096 9070 or email [email protected].
