The coalition Government is under fire again over its aviation strategy with a report by Frontier Economics claiming that London's "inadequate" aviation links are depriving the UK economy of £14 billion in trade, with France and Germany benefitting with better airports.

The report also highlights that £1.2 billion a year is being lost to France and Germany simply because they have better airports that can handle ever growing aviation demands.

BAA the owners of Gatwick and Heathrow has today called on the Government to formulate a "credible aviation policy" that would facilitate more trade the fast growing economies of Asia like India, China and other economies like Brazil.

Frontier Economies report also found that UK companies traded 20 times more with countries that had direct daily flights.  The UK unless it makes some major investment into its airports, will lose out on £14 billion of trade in the next 10 years.

The aviation minister Therese Villiers has said to the Financial Times that a "successful Heathrow would be a key part of any aviation strategy".
