A 34-year-old Turkish man has been jailed for nine years after a jury found him unanimously guilty of raping a woman in the street in a stranger attack.

Metin Sanci (1.9.76) of Ferndale House, Manor Road E16 was found guilty of rape at Blackfriars Crown Court on Thursday 20 January.

The court heard that the victim, a 21-year-old woman, had been out for the evening when she was suddenly grabbed by Sanci in Hanley Street N4 at about 05:20hrs on 24 July 2010.

He punched her and put his hands around her throat. The victim fought back, biting, punching and scratching, but the suspect managed to rape her before making off.

A neighbour who heard screams called police and Sanci was arrested about 50 metres away.

The victim required treatment at the Whittington Hospital for cuts and bruises.

Sanci was charged on 25 July 2010.
