An advisor to boxer Ricky Hatton is suing The Sun newspaper over promoter Frank Warren's column.

Lawyer Gary Williams is fighting for libel damages which he says claimed he encouraged the two-time IBF and IBO light welterweight champion to box at a time which would have put him at serious risk of terrible injury.

The piece entitled "Fatty Ricky should give it up" appeared last November.

Williams claims his personal and professional reputation has been seriously injured, and that he has suffered acute distress and embarrassment. He instructed law firm Simons Muirhead and Burton to act for him, and is seeking damages and an injunction banning repetition of the allegations.

Warren and News Group have refused to give an undertaking that they will not repeat the allegations at the centre of the piece, the writ alleges.
