NEWS DESK Security measures at key London Underground stations have now been escalated seeing the introduction of aiport x-ray machines. As the photo taken by the London Daily News indicates around 10 police officers will search and x-ray suspects for anything from knives, drugs and other potentially dangerous items. Leicester Square tube station one of the busiest on London's underground network saw police officer's at the top of escalators acting as spotters who would then direct suspects to the search area. A London Daily News jounralist approached an officer to query what the success of the airport style scanning techniques were in an over-crowded busy station, "well its pretty much a scatter gun approach, we don't search everyone and on a Friday night its very difficult to get much out of this, I would have thought that being on the streets would be a better deterant". Again the hierarchy at the Police must be queried as to the rationale of having these x-ray machines in the tube The random approach surely makes the detection and ultimately eradication of potential "threats to security" more difficult to reconcile, how many dangerous knives or guns will be detected like this? The reports that four or even five murders were committed in north London using knives, should tell the police that a stronger presence is required on the streets than maybe the underground system which is mostly used by commuters. photo credit London Daily News
