Anne McElvoy, executive editor of the Evening Standard says that Ken Livingstone is heading for a "considerable defeat."

Speaking to the BBC she said that Gordon Brown's woes had "infected" Labour's London pitch.

Ken didn't take Boris seriously

Mrs McElvoy believed Ken didn't take the challenge of Johnson seriously and in the early weeks acted with the "arrogance of the incumbent."

Nationally

"The metropolis turns away from New Labour" is how the Standard woman portrayed the expected result. Adding that Livingstone may blame the Prime Minister and Brown's national polices for his defeat.

30% of votes have been counted and results are expected later this evening.
