Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured by a pit bull type dog on New Year's Day.
The 58-year-old male was walking his Jack Russell dog on Station Parade, Northolt Road, SouthHarrow when his dog was attacked by the pit bull type dog outside the Spice Mahal restaurant at approximately 12 noon.
The man attempted to rescue his dog from the attack and in the process was bitten by the pit bull, receiving serious facial injuries to his cheek and lips.
The pit bull type dog's owner then ran off from the scene in the direction of South Harrow underground station with his dog.
The 58-year-old male was taken by London Ambulance to hospital for treatment.
The Jack Russell was seriously injured in the attack and required extensive veterinary treatment.
Detective Constable Will Ridler from Harrow CID said:
"This was a horrific attack which left the victim with serious facial injuries that required 60 stitches and will probably require ongoing medical treatment. We are extremely keen to speak to the owner of the pit bull or anyone with any information about the incident."
The pit bull type dog's owner is described as a white male aged 20 to 25 years old, approximately 6' 0" tall with short brown hair.
The pit bull type dog is described as a brown/ tan coloured dog.
