The Metropolitan Police officers from Hackney borough's "Operation Bantam", with the assistance of the Territorial Support Group (TSG), have arrested seven people on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
On Tuesday 31 January and in the early hours of Wednesday 1 February, teams conducted raids in East Sussex and London boroughs, as part of Operation Jakelwood.
Operation Jakelwood is a covert proactive operation run by Operation Bantam -Hackney boroughs' proactive response to gun and gang crime in the borough. The operation has been running over the past nine months. It has sought to target an organised criminal network that supplies drugs in Hackney and the Home Counties. The team's key focus was to disrupt those the police know are associated within a criminal gang.
Fifty rocks of crack cocaine were recovered during the raids, along with monies in excess of two thousand five hundred pounds, a large quantity of cannabis and drugs paraphernalia.
Two women [A - aged 59; B - aged 38] and three of the men [C - aged 26; D - aged 21; E - age awaits] arrested are from Hackney and a further two men [F - aged 33 and G - aged 44] are from East Sussex. All seven remain in custody at east London police stations.
Acting Superintendent Jackie Sebire, of Hackney borough's CID, said: "This operation has been a real team Met effort and I would like to extend my thanks to the TSG teams that have assisted with this operation, along with CATO for their continued support. This operation is a further example of how the police coupled with Hackney Council will not tolerate criminal gangs. We will respond with a myriad of tactics to effectively target and disrupt those involved.
