News Desk Responding to the comments of Prime Minister David Cameron that he is prepared to "halt Greek immigration to the UK" the Greek community in London with over 100 years history in the capital are preparing a campaign to underline the important contribution played by Greeks in London and the UK generally.
Leading the campaign "Dave you got it wrong" Greek Londoners from all walks of life, including education, politics, music, shipping, fashion and retail have told The London Daily News that a campaign at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham in October is being organised to dispel any fears that Greek migration is anything but a benefit for London. At Borough market in central London Marianna a young Greek has setup a stall selling olives and honey and establishing one of the leading Greek suppliers for home made honey on the internet www.oliveology.co.uk.
"I am from Sparta in Greece I sell produce from my home in Greece to Londoners. I work hard and I believe my business oliveology is making a credible contribution to the capital and British people have nothing to worry about from us Greeks".
The editor of The London Daily News and secretary of the Greek Orthodox Church in Highgate John Kaponi said: "For Greek Conservatives to hear from our Prime Minister that he feels Greek migrants are a threat or weight for the UK economy is astonishing, when Greeks in London and the UK have played an active role and contributed billions of pounds to the Treasury through the thousands of businesses that have been created by the British Greek community. Therefore many of us at party conference will be seeking a clarification from the Prime Minister on his position and underline that he should be more concerned with other more pressing issues than Greek migration".
