British tourists planning on holidays to Greece, Cyprus and Turkey are being warned of a new "heat wave" seeing temperatures hit over 40 degree centigrade.

"The hottest days of the year" is how the Greek press are describing the new heat wave as a "kamini" literally meaning a "scorcher" with many locals and tourists heading for open spaces and the sea.

The high temperatures are being compounded with winds that are likely to last a week remaining consistently at 41 degrees throughout Greece and Cyprus.  British tourists are expected to capitalise on cheap deals to southern Europe with over 1 million expected to holiday at this time of the year in Greece and Cyprus.

In neighbouring Bulgaria Nikki Wright-McNeill working at the "Spirit of Burgas festival" one of the Balkans largest festivals said to The London Daily News:

"It has been over 30 degrees all week and really hard to work on the site during the day".

The festival has continued to grow each year and was nominated for 'Best European Festival' at the UK Festival Awards in 2008 and for the 'Best Overseas Festival' category in 2009. In the same year The Times named SPIRIT as one of the Top 20 European Music Festivals and a program about the festival was broadcast across the MTV European Network in 16 countries.  In 2010 the festival was also shortlisted for the 'Best Medium Sized Festival' category at the inaugural European Festival Awards in January 2010.

Supported by the Mayor of Burgas, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, SPIRIT of Burgas provided entertainment for local residents and holiday makers as well as providing a creative outlet for the people of Bulgaria, be it musicians, artists or unusual performances.  The Bulgarian Minister of Finance was also a special guest at the festival.

Mean while in London temperatures are barely hitting the twenty centigrade.
