Greek Londoners celebrate historic win

London last night was celebrating to the tune of Zorba the Greek following the Greek national teams historic 1-0 win in Kiev against Ukraine to seal Greece’s place in the World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2010.

Greek fans celebrated the victory in the streets of Bayswater, and Southgate as the Euro 2004 Champions underlined the Greek national teams place at the top table of world soccer by qualifying for the World Cup.

It was estimated that thousands of Greek Londoners celebrated in London last night with more celebrations ready this weekend. It is only the second time Greece has qualified for the World Cup and there are great expectations from Greek Londoners; Marios Zambellas of Southgate said:

"We hope the Greek team at least make the quarter finals this team is stronger and more compact than the team that won the Euro's in 2004, we have Samaras, Gekas all top players, bring it on!"

It is expected that thousands of Greek Londoners will follow their team to South Africa, with South Africa the home over 200,000 Greeks, the Greek team will be one of the best supported sides in the World Cup.
