The negotiations started a few weeks ago. The Bundesliga club accepted the fee that could be increased in the future.
The 23-year-old player comes to reinforce the central midfield ranks after Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta’s contracts expire this summer.
Xhaka has passed the medical examination and declared that he is eager to move to London and represent the club. Known to be an aggressive player, the Swiss mentioned that he finds Arsenal’s way of playing football similar to his style and this is a major plus.
Though young, Granit captained the German team with success. He describes himself as a leader.
The Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger declared on the club’s site: “Granit Xhaka is an exciting young player, already with good Champions League and Bundesliga experience. We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad.”
