Travel Desk The Government’s support for a third runway at London's main airport Heathrow are now facing opposition from its own backbenchers following a report in the Daily Telegraph claiming that "ten backbenchers have signed a Commons motion calling for the runway plan to be scrapped, and the unease is shared by a at least one member of the Cabinet."
The Conservatives have been consistently against a third runway at Heathrow and have proposed high speed rail links and an airport on the Thames estuary as an alternative.
One minister publicly opposed to a third runway is a local Ann Keen MP representing the people of Hounslow, Osterley, Gunnersbury, Brentford, Isleworth and Chiswick who undertook a survey of local people which showed that people from the London Borough of Hounslow, 90% of respondents opposed a third runway.
A decision is expected in Parliament by the end of the year, the current Transport Secretary has hinted at his own support, and business groups like the CBI have backed the government on the issue
