News Desk The London Daily News has named Boy George aka George o'Dowd as man of the year, for his return of the priceless icon of Christ to the Church of Cyprus in February of this year.
The story which was covered by over 300 news organisations and mentioned over 2 million times on Twitter thrusted the eighties pop icon back into the global news agenda, and received credit for his gesture from the primate of the Church of Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos.
John Kaponi who acted on behalf of the Church of Cyprus said at the time:
"Boy George has made us all extremely proud and to be honest very emotional, I hugged George and held him by his arm to show him our church and I kept telling him how important it was for him to return this icon of Christ to Cyprus".
