The London Daily News broke the news first that the victim of the gangland style shooting in Turnpike Lane was a victim of the increasing tensions amongst rival Turkish gangs. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the identity of the victim as a 32 year old, Ali Armagan a Turkish national. A post-mortem took place at Haringey Mortuary on 3 February and gave cause of death as a gunshot wound to the neck.
An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Kenny McDonald (Trident).
The London Daily News has also been made aware that rival gangs have already threatened reprisals for the death of the 32 year old, increasing fear on the streets and amongst many in the thriving TUrkish community in Turnpike Lane. One small business owner who runs a shop only metres away who was not prepared to be named said:
"We are all worried, we do not want this type of thing happening, we have families and it makes no sense".
The police believe the victim was sitting in a car in Langham Road, N15 when two men approached the rear of the vehicle and fired between six and eight shots. The two men then made off on foot.
The victim got out of the car before collapsing on the pavement.
DCI McDonald said: "This incident took place outside Turnpike Lane underground station during a busy period of the day. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or has seen anything in the build-up to this incident, to contact my team. You may hold vital information that could assist the investigation."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8733 4211; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
