| Take a long hard look at the English Premier league and you will begin to notice a that a lot of wealthy individuals have invested heavily in many of the clubs, do they really need the headache of the managers, players and the ever more demanding football fan? The Premier league have done a fantastic job of selling the collective rights of top flight clubs to various television companies, it also should be said if it wasn't for Sky televisions revolutionary approach to marketing, presentation and camera skills football wouldn't be the product it is today. This success and then subsequent investment via the Sky platform has created opportunity for individuals to invest heavily in football clubs in the hope of a decent rate of return on capital invested. The recent play off final won by Hull guarantees a minimum of £60 million just for making it to the premiership, not bad if you can win promotion from the Championship ! But what of the die hard football fan, have you just become part of the entertainment package, there to make the noise so the game comes alive on a high definition television the size of a fridge freezer ? After all it's the armchair fan who's created the recent wealth in football, which in turn has attracted the investors and put the Premier league at the pinnacle of world football. By allowing the wealthiest people on the globe to invest and take control of the beautiful game we have managed to create a game fit for King's but beyond my wildest dreams, so maybe instead of tossing a coin to decide who kicks off we could spin a wheel and see who gets lucky. Or have the very wealthiest in the land just got bored with roulette and decided to play the ultimate game on the planet, winning the English Premier league ? |
