Adam Mann a 29 year old from south London has been found guilty of murdering his ex-wife and has been senetenced to 24 years in prison.

Lisa Beverley, 30, a full time mum, was killed on 16 September 2024 at an address in Coupland Place, Plumstead by her ex-husband who beat her and stabbed her. Her five year old son found her lifeless body.

At approximately 0600hrs on 16 September 2009, Lisa Beverley's five year old son called his grandparents to say that his mother was dead. His grandfather dialled 999 and then went immediately to her address. He arrived at the same time as the emergency services. Inside the property they found the five year old boy with the lifeless body of Lisa lying in a pool of blood.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as head injuries, however she had received numerous injuries including stab wounds to the throat, broken ribs, heavy bruising and skull fractures caused by a hammer. It was revealed that she had been murdered the previous evening.

Detectives established that there was no sign of a break-in, no sexual assault and that Lisa had no known enemies. The police investigation began to focus on her ex-husband with whom it was known she had had a difficult relationship which had seen him be violent towards her during their short marriage.

On 16 September 2009, Lisa's former husband was arrested at the home that he shared with his partner.

Adam Mann was interviewed under caution and bailed. He was rearrested on 21 September and charged with murder on 22 September when he was remanded in custody awaiting trial.

During the trial, Mann's defence was that he had agreed with Lisa to commit a staged burglary at her address. He stated he arrived as planned and found Lisa's body. He said that he checked for a pulse and in a state of confusion/panic decided to commit the burglary anyway. He returned home and washed his clothes.

The next morning he carried on as normal. He took the children to school and arrived for work - where he discarded the clothing he had been wearing the previous evening.

Investigating officer DCI Brian Mather said: "This was a dreadful and tragic case and one cannot imagine how Lisa's young son must have felt finding his mother dead under such horrendous circumstances. The actions of Mann are indescribable, that he could murder the mother of his son and leave him to discover her body.”
