Man 'executed' in daylight cafe shooting

A man was shot dead point blank execution style at a cafe in Mottingham yesterday.

Police arrested a man in his 40s shortly after the broad daylight attack at the D A Sandwich Cafe on Court Road in south-east London.

The victim, in his 30s, was blasted to the back of the head around 3.45pm - he died at the scene.

It is thought that the victim and the gunman were both white.


Shooter stayed in cafe for 15 minutes - gun 'found'

There was a 15 minute interval before police arrived at the restaurant and arrested the suspect.

The street has been cordoned off while murder investigators carry out a fingertip search.

The gun was found at the scene.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said:

"Police were called shortly after 3.45pm to reports of a man in possession of a firearm at the D A Sandwich Café in Court Road, Mottingham.

"It was believed that a male victim was also inside the premises.

"Police, paramedics and a helicopter ambulance all attended and police assessed the situation before they entered the premises and arrested a man at about 4.10pm.

"The male victim in the café is believed to have suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We await formal identification and confirmation all next of kin have been informed.

"Detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are at the scene and inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

"The man arrested was taken into custody at a south London police station where he remains at this time."
