Fast food giant McDonalds has admitted that this year will be its toughest since the "financial crisis" with the prospect of "deep and painful" public spending cuts by the coalition government.

The UK chief executive of Mcdonalds issued a statement yesterday and said:

"Britain will continue to feel squeezed for some time to come".

Group profits for Mcdonalds worldwide grew to £775 million up 2.1 pc with the UK experiencing its strongest growth in the "expensive end" of its menu, with Ms Mcdonald claiming growth in the UK is coming from the same customers visiting more frequenlty.

There are plans to see another 10-15 McDonalds in the UK in 2011 adding to the 1,200 in existence.
