JOHN ILLSLEY takes to the road this Spring to play a series of selected dates across the UK and Europe. The shows come in support of his new album Streets Of Heaven out May 24th on the Creek record label. Often described as the “engine room of Dire Straits”, the bass player and founder member of DS takes lead vocal and guitar credit on this solo tour. Having contributed backing vocals to his multi-million selling former group he’s no slouch in that department but the fact that he’s also a mean guitarist may come as a very pleasant surprise to many.
Along with his stellar five piece band he’ll be playing tracks from the new CD as well as some of the old Straits’ favourites.
Streets Of Heaven features 11 tracks in all, was recorded in London at British Grove and is produced by Guy Fletcher together with John. From the exquisite ballad, Only Time Will Tell, to the countryish Young Girl and the poignant I Thought I Saw It Coming, Streets Of Heaven is a very personal album that deals with family, friends and personal events.

Streets Of Heaven is not, however, John’s first solo offering. While in Dire Straits he released two albums, Glass and Never Told A Soul (recently rereleased on Creek Records), the live Live In Les Baux in 2007 and a collaboration last year with Greg Pearle titled Beautiful You. Last year also saw him play sold out dates at Bush Hall and the 100 Club as well as undertaking a tour of Ireland and selected dates in Europe.
