Enfield embroiled in Cyprus peace talks

The Mayor of Enfield Dogan Delman made a visit to the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus which has been condemned by the government in the Republic of Cyprus as "illegal".

Mr Delman a local councillor in the north London borough speaking with the Turkish Cypriot news agency BRT said he was in Cyprus for a private visit but "they also wanted to bring the greetings of Turkish Cypriots living in the UK."

The remarks of the Mayor will be contentious to the Greek-Cypriots of Enfield figures of 60-70,000 of this communities population.

The pseudo-state in the northern third of the Republic of Cyprus is an illegal state established following the invasion and occuption of Turkish troops in 1974.
