The Conservative party have drafted in the "respected gang mediator" and youth worker, Ken Hinds, to bolster the chances of the Conservatives in this solid Labour area ahead of the general election, it was announced today.
Ken Hinds who has worked to try to remove the "shank-town" image of Edmonton and has according to a statement by the Edmonton Conservatives "calling for a postcode truce as he prepares to stand as a Conservative councillor in local elections."
The Conservatives in Edmonton have adopted "unconventional" tactics in the run up to the general and local elections, fielding a "united nations" of candidates in an attempt to appeal to the ethnic diversity in the constituency.
Ken Hinds according to a statement issued by the Edmonton Conservatives said:
"For twenty years Ken has worked with youth outreach groups and authorised by the Home Office, as a high risk mediator for Scotland Yard, the council and a special adviser for Operation Trident, the Metropolitan Police’s project dedicated unit for ending gun and knife crime."
“We will no longer accept Edmonton as one of the crime capitals of London, we are called shank town for a reason,” he said. “Violence is not the way. There are peaceful ways to end disputes and conflict, I am the third option”.
Labour hold an 8,000 majority but with boundary changes this has been increased to 10,000, which would need a 14-15% margin nationally for the Conservatives to have a change to win Edmonton. It is believed that Andrew Charalambous has spent £142,000 on his campaign during.
The Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Andrew Charalambour the flamboyant "Kojak-lookalike", who is campaigning for real ‘zero tolerance’ as the only way to end gun, knife and violent crime on our streets has said that if elected he will like to see more visible policing and a greater emphasis on pursuing violent criminals, rather than motorists.
He said “for every five people caught with a knife or gun, one is cautioned. Kids are killing kids; we cannot go on like this”. photo credit: Ken Hinds Conservative local council candidate Edmonton
