East London has been revealed as Britain’s debt capital with its post codes littering a financial survey.

E1 to E17 postcodes are listed as the most 'debt-heavy' areas in the country, according to a report by Callcredit reference agency.

Debt status was accessed using census data, age, property class and income as well as debt data.

These 'E numbers' are living by cheek and jowl with their more affluent EC1 to EC4 neighbours who are the country’s least-indebted area - but as postcodes rope in contrasting areas, financial centres like E14 Canary Wharf is still the most debt-ridden postcode region in the country.

Falling house prices - rising expenses

People struggling in already deprives parts of East London, like Whitechapel are unable to raise extra money through remorgating and are saddled with loans and credit cards taken out over a year ago.
