Information coming from various polling stations around London indicate that households, are voting tactically with parliamentary support for one party, not being reflected in the local elections.

There have been examples of support for Labour in the parliamentary elections, and then Conservative support in the local elections.  One voter said at a polling station in Enfield:

"I am voting Labour for the parliamentary elections because I think the Labour party will not make the swinging cuts in the public sector that the Tories will do; and Conservative in the local elections, because they seem to run local councils better".

This tactical voting may well see a hung parliament, and will also create a problem for the staff of local authorities who have a tough job, with each person allowed to vote for three candidates in the local elections.  The results may carry on until Saturday to be declared if this trend is reflected across the board.  Counts for the local elections do not start until Friday morning; the general election will be counted from 10pm tonight.

The London Daily News is monitoring around 20 polling stations.
