Police have arrested the driver of a coach that crashed into a block of flats in Muswell Hill yesterday.

The back of the coach was embedded into the building after it appears it struck a BMW, rolled down the hill and ploughed into the property.

'Dangerous driving'

The private vehicle developed mechanical problems as it was going uphill, the driver sought assistance from a police car who closed the street. But as he reversed he lost control, smashing into the BMW and careering into the block near the junction of Park Road and Muswell Hill.

Two people were injured; the coach driver was taken to hospital and was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The road has since reopened but residents have been evacuated while the building structural integrity is assessed.

DNA to identify Spain air tragedy victims
DNA tests will be needed to identify many of the 153 people killed in a Spanish plane crash, officials say. Authorities say many victims were so badly burned that fingerprint and other identification will be impossible. The crash of flight JK5022 at Madrid's Barajas Airport on Wednesday is Spain's worst air disaster in decades.
