London Labour MP for Hendon Andrew Dismore, who serves on the parliamentary committee for MPs standards, is facing a barrage of criticism this morning with calls for him to resign from his post following news he reportedly claimed £34,000 on his second home allowance, despite his main home which is minutes away.
Dismore is accused in a report by the Daily Telegraph that he claimed £34,000 in a second home allowances for a flat in west London. Dismore's girlfriend runs a clinic in the second home it was reported, and it is alleged that the Hendon MP "flipped" his second home designation and then claimed another £31,000 according to the Daily Telegraph.
Dismore is the longest serving MP on the standard committee and the news comes hot on the heals of the revelations that Conservative MP David Curry who was the committee's chairman had to step down amid allegations he also claimed £30,000 for a property which his wife banned him using after an affair.
Calls for Dismore to step down from the standard's committee are being lead by its former chairman Sir Alistair Graham who said in the Daily Telegraph that members of the committee need to be "squeaky clean".
Dismore defended his actions by saying that "parliamentary demands" meant who was spending more time in London than Hendon.
